The shower in the bathroom was leaking, causing a damp smell. Leaking showers are very common as we tend to use harsh cleaning products on the silicone sealant around the shower.
Commonly people tend to add more silicone when there is a leaking shower, this makes sense and often stop the leaking shower but it doesn’t tend to last long.
After adding and adding layers of silicone the leaking shower will tend to continue leaking and look pretty awful. Additional silicone all around the shower also makes it harder to keep the shower clean.
We stripped the silicone around the shower tray, all up the sides of wall around the cubicle and outside this shower there was silicone between lots of tiles.
After removing the silicone from the leaking shower in worthing, we removed as much mould and rot as possible. Fortunately the shower stand and floor were not permanently damaged.
If you leave a leaking shower too long, the floor may rot and even the floor joists, please don’t leave a leaking shower.
The silicone around the sink had also massively degraded which needed removing.
The steps we took to repair this leaking shower in worthing:
- Removed old moldy silicone in the shower, around the tray, up the walls and cubicle and all around the outside of the shower
- Removed the silicone from around the bathroom sink
- We then scrubbed any dirty and removed all the mold
- We then applied silicone remover to all areas that had silicone
- Once the silicone remover had done it’s job, we scraped silicone residue off
- After a quick clean we could start applying the replacement silicone.
- We noticed that the shower door did not meet the tray evenly and the tray itself showed slight signs of movement
- To negate the need for the customer having to totally replace the shower we added silicone on the inside base of the shower tray where the shower door meets the tray.
- If it’s an old shower, we tend to recommend adding silicone on the inside at the bottom of the shower tray where the door meets the tray. It is generally recommended NOT to do this when installing a shower but due to the age if this installation and the uneven join between the shower tray and shower door, this is often the best solution to prolong the life of the shower.
- Once dry this repair will offer many years of leak free showering
